Reflecting on a Decade-Long Chapter, Pitt Describes the Divorce as “Just Something Coming to Fruition”
Brad Pitt, 61, has finally spoken publicly about his divorce from Angelina Jolie nearly a year after the former couple reached their long-awaited legal settlement. In a candid new interview with GQ, Pitt downplayed the finalization of the divorce as “not that major of a thing,” describing it simply as “something coming to fruition. Legally.”
The iconic Hollywood pair first met in 2005 on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, sparking a relationship that led to marriage in 2014 and six children together — Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara, and twins Knox and Vivienne. However, the union unraveled when Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing an alleged incident on a private jet involving Pitt that raised accusations of abuse.
Despite the intense media scrutiny and legal battles, official investigations including an FBI inquiry in 2022 and child services investigations concluded with no charges filed against Pitt, and no evidence of abuse determined.
While a judge declared Pitt and Jolie legally single in 2019, the process of dividing their assets and finalizing child custody extended into a drawn-out legal battle that only culminated in 2024 with a settlement.
Jolie’s legal team stated following the settlement, “She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family.” A source close to Jolie shared that she “doesn’t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately,” emphasizing her focus on healing rather than public confrontation.
Reflecting on the public nature of his personal life, Pitt told GQ, “It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way.” He dismissed the notion that his upcoming racing film, F1, offered respite from media attention, calling the scrutiny “an annoyance I’ve had to always deal with.”
Pitt further explained, “Mostly I feel pretty… My life is fairly contained. It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am… it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”
As both stars continue to move forward separately, the finalization of their divorce marks the close of a turbulent chapter while they focus on their respective families and careers. Angelina Jolie, despite the challenges, is said to prioritize peace and healing for herself and their children, reminding them to channel their experiences into positive change rather than public battles.
Brad Pitt’s measured reflections reveal a man who has grown accustomed to the spotlight but remains grounded by his personal connections and inner sense of self — a poignant reminder that even amid public scrutiny, the most important battles are often fought within.
