Maite Perroni: A Global Star in Her Most Personal Role Yet

From teen idol to dramatic powerhouse, the actress, singer, and entrepreneur opens up about identity, motherhood, and her Hollywood debut.

Maite Perroni is no stranger to transformation. Over the past two decades, the Mexican artist has evolved from a beloved telenovela star and member of the iconic pop group RBD into one of Latin America’s most versatile talents—crossing boundaries between music, television, film, and now, international cinema.

Born Maite Perroni Beorlegui, she first captured hearts playing Lupita in Rebelde (2004–2006), a role that launched her music career as part of the phenomenon RBD. Following the group’s global success, Maite carved out her place as a leading actress, starring in a string of hit telenovelas including Cuidado con el ÁngelMi PecadoTriunfo del AmorLa GataAntes Muerta que Lichita, and Papá a Toda Madre. These productions not only dominated prime-time slots in Mexico but reached audiences across the globe, cementing her as a household name in international Latin media.

In 2013, she released her debut solo album Eclipse de Luna, blending Latin pop with bachata rhythms. The album debuted at No. 3 in Mexico and charted on several Billboard lists. To date, her music has accumulated over one billion views on YouTube and more than 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify—proof that her voice continues to resonate.

With the rise of streaming, Perroni adapted once again, taking on daring roles in Netflix hits like Dark Desire and Triada. In the latter, she portrayed three distinct characters in a psychological thriller that showcased the full range of her talent. The series reached the Global Top 10 and topped viewership charts in over 50 countries, including Brazil. Her performance earned her the PRODU Award for Best Lead Actress in a Thriller Series in 2023.

Beyond the screen, Maite has taken on the role of producer, developing content in collaboration with platforms like Pantaya for series such as El Juego de las Llaves and Herederos por Accidente. In 2021, she ventured into the business world, launching her own wine label, SPARA, with Argentina’s Santa Julia winery. The collection quickly became a best-seller on Amazon in Mexico and Brazil.

In her personal life, Perroni entered a new chapter in 2022, marrying producer Andrés Tovar. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lía, in May 2023. That same year, she reunited with RBD for an explosive reunion tour, selling out 54 stadium shows across the U.S., Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil—including six packed nights in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo alone, with over 440,000 tickets sold in Brazil.

Now, Maite is preparing for her next act: her Hollywood debut in the emotional drama No te olvides. In this intimate interview, she opens up about what drew her to the project, the power of representation, the possibility of singing on screen again, and how motherhood and maturity have reshaped her path.

1. You’re about to begin a new project in Hollywood with the film No te olvides. How did this script find its way to you, and what inspired you to say “yes” even before filming began?
No te olvides came to me at a very special time. From the very first read, I felt a deep connection to the story and to the character. I was truly moved by how the script explores such universal themes—identity, family, and healing—but through a cultural lens that feels so close to home. Saying yes was inevitable.

What motivated me the most was the opportunity to tell a story that honors our roots while embracing a contemporary sensitivity, with a creative team fully committed to authenticity. For me, this project goes beyond entertainment—it’s a way to represent so many women who are searching for their place in the world.

2. The project has musical elements. Is there a chance we’ll hear you sing in the film, or is it still too soon to confirm?
This is definitely a project where music plays a powerful emotional role in the narrative. We’re still in the creative development stage, but I can say that I will be performing a few songs. I’m open to everything that adds soul to the character—and I’ll give it my all, from the heart.

3. Some time ago, you chose to focus fully on your acting career, but many fans still dream of hearing you sing again. Would you consider releasing a song in a special situation or as part of a collaboration?
I will always be grateful for music. It was a fundamental part of my beginnings and the journey that brought me to where I am today. While my current focus is acting, I haven’t closed the door to a special collaboration or a project that inspires me deeply.

If something authentic comes along—something that allows me to connect with people from a genuine place—I’d embrace it with love. Music is part of my essence.

I’m deeply thankful for the opportunity to share this part of my journey with Hollywood Magazine and with readers in the U.S. It means a great deal to me that—even across continents—there’s interest in hearing my voice and connecting with the projects I hold close to my heart.

Thank you for giving me this space. I’m excited for what’s coming—and even more so to be able to share it with all of you.

4. You’re taking an important step by portraying a Latina woman in an international production. Do you feel there’s been real change in how Hollywood receives Hispanic talent today?
I believe there has. There’s still a long road ahead, but little by little, spaces are opening up where Latin voices are not only present but are being heard with respect. Today there’s a more intentional search for meaningful authenticity.

For me, being part of an international production as a Latina woman isn’t just a personal achievement—it’s also an opportunity to showcase the richness of our stories, our nuances, and our strength.

I’m proud to represent so many women who, like me, believe in the power of dreaming big and working with passion to create new narratives.

5. Beyond your artistic career, you’ve also ventured into the business world with your own wine brand and your book Mi Viaje como Rebelde. What motivated you to enter that space, and how has your entrepreneurial journey been so far?
It’s been a deeply enriching and personal experience. Each of these projects was born from a desire to share parts of myself that go beyond acting or music.

The wine represents moments of connection, celebration, and the creation of memories—and it makes me happy to know it can become part of people’s lives in such a special way.

Mi Viaje como Rebelde was a way of closing a chapter with honesty, while also expressing gratitude for all that I’ve lived and making space for what’s to come.

As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned to trust my intuition, make decisions with both heart and strategy, and surround myself with people who share my values and vision. It’s a different kind of art, and another way of growing and expressing myself from new perspectives.

6. Your style has evolved over the years, but you’ve always remained sophisticated and authentic. How would you describe your relationship with fashion today?
My relationship with fashion has matured alongside me. Today, I see it as a natural extension of who I am—a form of expression that reflects each stage, each emotion, and my growth as a person.

I like to feel comfortable, confident, and true to who I am in the moment. Sometimes that means going for something classic and elegant; other times, it’s about embracing freedom and spontaneity.

To me, fashion isn’t about following rules—it’s about wearing what represents you with honesty. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the most authentic version of yourself is always the most powerful.

7. The RBD phenomenon is still alive in the collective memory, and the recent tour reignited a lot of emotion. What was that experience like for you, and what comes next?
The tour was an incredibly moving experience. Seeing so many people—from different generations—sing with their hearts, get emotional, relive memories through our songs… it touched my soul.

It was a reunion with that genuine and unwavering love that the public has kept alive over the years. That connection is something I value deeply, and it stays with me always.

Today, I feel very grateful for everything we’ve lived. I’m now in a more intimate phase, focused on personal projects as an actress and, above all, enjoying time with my family.

It’s a moment where I want to build with calm, balance, and authenticity. Whatever comes next will arrive in its own time—but always with an open heart and deep gratitude for everything that brought me here.
